About us
Born in Boonville, Missouri, just minutes apart on consecutive days in 1928, Bill and Bob Meistrell were fascinated by underwater exploration from a young age. As children, they improvised diving helmets from vegetable cans and air hoses, driven by pure curiosity and imagination.
After moving to Redondo Beach in 1944, the brothers immersed themselves in ocean life. They worked as lifeguards, served in the Army during the Korean War, and returned home determined to push the boundaries of diving and surf technology.
Their relentless experimentation led to a breakthrough that changed water sports forever. While searching for a better wetsuit material, the Meistrells discovered neoprene, at the time used to insulate refrigerators. The result was the first commercially viable wetsuit. A simple remark that it “fit like a glove” eventually became one of the most iconic names in the industry, Body Glove.
We have been outfitting and stoking everyone out in the South Bay and beyond for over 60 years! We carry the largest selection of Body Glove Wetsuits, apparel and much more! Dive N' Surf is a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) 5 Star Instructor Development Center, offering a variety of SCUBA courses from Open Water through Instructor ratings. We have been training people to dive for over 60 years and offer full education, equipment sales, boat charter, air and rental/service facilities.
We are one of Southern California’s largest and most reputable dive training facilities. Our highly trained and experienced staff make diving easy, fun, and exciting whether it’s your first course or you’re an experienced certified diver.
